Maybe you are functioning—but it feels harder than it should.

You may be keeping up on the outside while feeling scattered, anxious, exhausted, stuck, or disconnected underneath. Therapy can be a place to understand what is happening and find tools that fit your actual life.

✓
Your mind rarely feels quiet.
You overthink, worry, replay conversations, or have trouble settling.
✓
Daily life feels harder to manage.
Planning, motivation, focus, and follow-through take more energy than others realize.
✓
You feel stuck in familiar patterns.
You understand what you want to change but struggle to make it happen consistently.
✓
You want support that feels human.
You are looking for understanding, honesty, and useful strategies—not judgment or perfection.

Support that meets you where you are.

We will look beyond labels and focus on how your thoughts, emotions, experiences, relationships, and daily demands are affecting you now.

01

ADHD & executive functioning

Understand your patterns, reduce shame, and create realistic systems for focus, motivation, organization, and follow-through.

02

Anxiety & overwhelm

Learn to recognize what is fueling the mental noise, regulate your nervous system, and respond with greater confidence.

03

Mood & life transitions

Make space for what you are carrying, reconnect with yourself, and move through change with clearer direction and support.

What therapy can look like

Insight matters. So does knowing what to do next.

My approach brings emotional understanding and practical strategies together. We work collaboratively, adapt the process to you, and focus on progress that can continue outside the therapy hour.

1

Understand what is happening

We slow things down, identify patterns, and make sense of your experiences without reducing you to a diagnosis.

2

Find tools that fit you

We explore skills and strategies that are realistic for your personality, needs, responsibilities, and available energy.

3

Practice meaningful change

You try manageable steps in daily life, notice what helps, and adjust without treating imperfection as failure.

Meet Kara

I understand therapy from both sides of the room.

Kara Pederson, LICSWMinnesota therapistTelehealth since 2019

My path to becoming a therapist grew from my own mental-health experiences and a lifelong curiosity about why we think, feel, and respond the way we do. That personal understanding, combined with my clinical background, shapes a style that is compassionate, direct, and grounded in real life.

I want therapy to feel like a collaborative conversation—not a performance. Together, we explore what is getting in the way, recognize strengths you may overlook, and build practical ways forward at a pace that feels sustainable.

Start a conversation

What to know before reaching out.

Starting therapy already takes courage. The logistics should be straightforward.

Sessions

Online and flexible

Therapy is offered through secure telehealth for adults located in Minnesota.

Timing

About 45–55 minutes

Most clients choose weekly or every-other-week sessions depending on their needs.

Payment

Insurance and private pay

Several insurance options and private-pay services are available. Coverage is confirmed before beginning.

Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on?

No. Many people begin therapy knowing that something feels difficult without having the words for it yet. We can start there.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

KP Counseling currently provides online therapy. You must be physically located in Minnesota at the time of each session.

What approaches do you use?

I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed practices, adapting the work to your needs rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all process.

How do I know whether my insurance is accepted?

Send a brief inquiry with your insurance company name. Benefits and eligibility should be confirmed before the first appointment. Please do not include private health details in ordinary email.
